Steve Spencer didn't seriously pursue art until after forty, when he immersed himself in creating exuberant acrylic paintings and three-dimensional assemblages that blend folk and pop art with a musical influence. With synesthesia, music makes him see colors and forms, inspiring him to craft canvases filled with rhythms, moods, and feelings akin to those evoked by music. He has received grants from the Mid-America Arts Alliance and the Arkansas Arts Council and has held events at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, where his prints were sold for three years. Spencer's work has been featured in exhibitions across the U.S. His joyous style earned him titles like “Jazz Visual Artist of the Year” and “Baseball Artist of the Year,” along with a Google Doodle artwork for B.B. King. Spencer’s art is instantly recognizable, with joy jumping out at the viewer, while deeper themes, both formal and emotional, lie beneath the surface.
